KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is launching an innovative social enterprise initiative called Fleximart, under the Ayuh Malaysia platform. The first Fleximart outlet will open its doors on November 1 at 35, Jalan Plumbum U7/U, Section 7, Shah Alam, next to Speedmart.

🛒 What Is Fleximart?

Fleximart is a community-based convenience store that focuses on ready-made meals and essential groceries priced under RM5. Designed to address rising living costs, the store aims to make basic food and household items affordable for Malaysians, particularly urban low- and middle-income groups.

Unlike traditional retail outlets, Fleximart operates on a social enterprise model, meaning its profits are shared between capital contributors, workers, and the community. This model ensures sustainability — keeping prices low while providing fair wages and reinvesting profits for social good.

🍱 Affordable Meals and Daily Essentials

At Fleximart, shoppers can find:

  • Ready-to-eat meals under RM5
  • Daily essentials and groceries at budget-friendly prices
  • Locally sourced items that support small producers

The initiative complements another Ayuh Malaysia project, Kesum, an eatery offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner for below RM5, set to open on November 8 in Pandan Indah.

💡 A New Way to Build Community Prosperity

Rafizi Ramli described Fleximart as more than just a store — it’s a social experiment in community development. The business structure blends capital partnership and worker empowerment, ensuring that as profits grow, workers’ salaries increase, and prices remain low for customers.

“Profits will be shared among capital contributors, workers and the public. The more profit, the higher the workers’ salaries, and the profits are donated back so that prices can be kept low,” Rafizi said.

🌱 Empowering the Youth and Local Economy

One of the key goals of Fleximart is to create job opportunities for young Malaysians and to train them to manage and operate businesses. If the pilot project succeeds, Rafizi plans to expand Fleximart to more branches nationwide, promoting an ecosystem of affordable living, youth empowerment, and sustainable enterprise.
